Thankfully…

I’m a vegetarian, so I don’t have to slaughter/cook/eat a bird today

there is vegetarian vegetable broth so I can still have dressing (unstuffed stuffing for you Yankees)

I have a warm place in which to prepare and share my non-bloody feast

I can laugh, hearing all of you who are, by now, saying, ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I have a mother still alive and well enough to tell me everything I’m doing wrong in the kitchen (and elsewhere)

I have a beautiful, heartbreaking daughter who is well and safe and (I hope) happy

I live in a country where I was able to help elect a president who makes me believe in it again

I filled up my car for $18.00 yesterday, instead of $48.00

I have the honour to earn a living by being with people during a sacred and intimate time — the end of their lives

I have reached an age in years that I never dreamed I would and am (almost) old enough in heart and mind to appreciate it

I have my mother’s skin, my father’s eyes, and my precious sister’s memory to carry me through whatever years are left

I have been deeply loved and loved deeply in return

six months ago, a man I’d never met and probably never will, led me to virtual land in which I was able to find a part of myself that I thought long lost

all of you were there waiting for me

May your day be full of thanks and hope and, most especially, Love,
Stephanie
