Star Trek

the journey back
began with him
     his boy body
floating gently in his mother’s womb
as i wandered the streets of London
     an hour to his north
     his pitch-ready legs
growing strong in his father’s heart
as i drank at the King’s Head after show
     just a child myself

no
    wait

the journey back
began with him
     his dwarf hands
webbing ‘round a ring he ought never to have had
as i wandered the woods of Texas
     invisible in his sphere
     his middle aged despair
reaching its peak in his twisted soul
as i drowned in a lake called Tawakoni
     older than death myself

no
     wait

the journey back
began with him
     his brother voice
calling through the ether to protect me
as i wandered the land of Once Was
     his  hidden poet soul
     awakening from an ancient sleep
as i listened in the distance
     mutely ageless myself

yes
     him

the journey back
began with him
     this one for whom
all i am is still enough
for all that was and what might be
     his nameless faceless foolish
     love
     the only guide
     i need
