Big Dave

melting in the august
sun, the world around me
                                                    silent

mouths move
lights spin
phones vibrate
                               voiceless
                               soundless
                               speechless
                                                      dumb

while beyond the
double doors
you lie
                breathless

the rumbling of
the engine
the only noise
the only
                 noise
to cross the
silence and find me
                                       standing
                                       sweating
                                       swaying
heels sinking
into the sizzling
                                sod
buried ‘neath the
weight of my own
                                     futility
